The modern Springfield Armory, based in Geneseo, Illinois, takes its name from America's historic national armory — though as a private company founded in 1974, it is a separate enterprise carrying that storied name forward. Over the decades it has built a lineup that bridges classic and contemporary American firearms.
Its M1A — a civilian-legal version of the M14 — and its broad family of 1911 pistols cemented the company's reputation among traditionalists. The polymer-framed XD and XD-M series brought it into the modern striker-fired market, and then the micro-compact Hellcat became one of the best-selling concealed-carry pistols in the country, packing high capacity into a pocketable frame. The full-size Echelon, the SAINT line of AR-15s, the bullpup Hellion, and the 2020 Waypoint precision bolt rifle round out a catalog that now spans carry, competition, and long range.
