Weatherby was founded in 1945 by Roy Weatherby, a man obsessed with velocity. Convinced that speed killed more cleanly than mass, he developed a family of high-velocity magnum cartridges — the .257, .300, and .340 Weatherby Magnums among them — that remain benchmarks for flat-shooting power. To handle them, he built the Mark V, one of the strongest bolt actions ever made, with its distinctive nine-lug bolt and fast lock time.
The lineup balances that flagship with accessible options: the Vanguard delivers a sub-MOA guarantee at a working price, and the newer Model 307 brings a modern, customizable platform with a Remington 700 footprint. Weatherby also builds shotguns — the Sorix semi-auto, the Orion over/under, and the Element — for the field.
Now headquartered in Sheridan, Wyoming, in the heart of big-game country, Weatherby still stands for the same thing it did in 1945: speed, power, and accuracy.
